Longneck Rings

Materials Hand coiled sterling silver, copper, brass.

Inspired by the fabled Burmese Long Neck Women, seen on a recent trip to the northern border of Thailand and Burma (Myanmar).

Their elongated necks are actually not stretched but, but the result of the heavy weight of the brass rings they wear (up to 22 lbs) which presses down on their shoulder bones over time, creating the arresting visual. Young Burnese girls start wearing up to 2 pounds of coil as early as the age of 2.

My rings in different materials are an homage to the stunning visual image of these unique women.

Note that the materials naturally tarnish if not worn regularly. However, it is easy to polish them with a metal or silver cleaner.
